How do you feel about hybrid working?
Today, Sarah Jane Black, an award-winning business improvement specialist, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid working, with a particular focus on how it has impacted gender equality within the workplace. 79% of men compared to 37% of women declare a positive experience of hybrid working. Sarah Jane explores reasons why this working model might not be promoting gender equality in the workplace that we have previously worked so hard to improve. Sarah Jane goes on to share ways employers can improve their culture to help mitigate negative work-from-home experiences, ultimately prioritising their employee’s productivity and safety.

Have you ever experienced burnout or felt on the edge of it?
With almost half of UK employees feeling on the edge of burnout, having an understanding as to how our bodies respond to stress, and thus ways we can support ourselves and those we work with, is vital. Today, Sarah Mayo, Co-Founder of POINT3 wellbeing, discusses what burnout is, along with strategies to help. Sarah also shares her personal experiences of burnout.
Sarah discusses the importance of consciously completing the stress response, and one way this can be done is by identifying and then implementing what your “well-being non-negotiables” are. Sarah suggests helpful ways that organisations can help support their employees throughout stressful periods, to reduce the occurrence of burnout amongst employees.

How important do you think conflict is within teams?
Lech Guzowski, workplace culture facilitator, discusses one of the natural stages of team collaboration: conflict. Lech shares the benefits of conflict within a team and advises ways to re-frame dealing with and resolving conflicts on a personal level. Chris Cook, former competitive swimmer for Great Britain, shares his journey and mindset shift after retiring from swimming.
Chris explains the darkness that he experienced after retiring from the only thing he really knew and loved and the difficulties of transitioning to the next stage of his life. However, Chris advocates for experimenting and figuring out what else it is that you truly enjoy, being cautious to make sure your ‘super ego’ is not stopping you from experimenting. Chris further explains the enormous benefit of making things simple. From employing an “I just need to swim 2 lengths” mindset in his swimming races, he now encourages this same simplicity across the businesses he works with, absolutely vouching for the business advantage it delivers.

Today, Carl Hewitt shares the challenges and lessons he has learnt since starting his first business at the age of 15.
From customising Xbox controllers at 15, to now becoming the managing director of Hewitt Matthews, a digital marketing agency, Carl has gained a myriad of wisdom and advice on how to overcome challenges.
Carl firstly shares the challenges that he faced as a young business owner, pointing out the biggest challenge was surprisingly the lack of network, rather than being “young”, as such. With the limited responsibilities that often come with being young, Carl shares how at the time, their fear of failure was minimal, therefore allowing them to take big risks and ultimately grow the business faster. Now with more responsibility, Carl expresses the importance of being self-aware, and continuing to take risks, always keeping in mind that whatever the outcome, it too shall pass.

What valuable leadership lessons can we learn from Formula 1 racing?
Paul Teasdale is not only an expert in F1 but also a coach and facilitator, and today explores what we can learn, as leaders, from the high-pressure and fast-paced environment of F1. Paul describes the success of consciously moving to a “decisions at the point of most knowledge” leadership style within F1. By empowering those with the most knowledge of a presented problem to make decisions, a sense of trust is felt amongst employees, enabling goals to be driven more effectively. Paul further discusses the importance of communication in such an environment, as well as how leaders can balance taking a risk, whilst also keeping their business sustainable.

What do you do when your career has been derailed?
Catherine Morgan, award-winning career transition expert, shares how to manage the journey from losing a job, to finding yourself and new opportunities.
Catherine firstly emphasises the importance of acknowledging the inevitable emotional rollercoaster, or identity crisis, and being gentle with yourself throughout the ride: truly allowing yourself to process and untangle what has happened, before jumping into figuring out what is next.
Catherine reiterates that a new chapter will mean something different to everyone, with an array of positive or negative emotions at stake. Thus, the best way to support someone is to listen and offer to be helpful, rather than trying to fix it for them.
