Values and principles are important elements of any organisation and should be rooted in the decisions we make as leaders, but how do we make sure that they are?
Tracy Aust, the Principal of West Thames College, discusses her insight into the values that she keeps at the forefront of her mind when making decisions. Tracy explains the importance of role-modelling the values and principles of your organisation when making decisions, in order to create a culture in which these values are practised and felt.
One way this can be done is by making decisions transparently, with a clear decision-making process outlined to all of your team that incorporates your values. Feedback and reflection on the decision-making process, or final decision, is important and allows those you work with to see how the way you act as a leader is aligned with the organisation’s values and principles.
